Live to thy self, and the Muses: be covetous of time, beneficial to all men.
Hello! I'm Benjamin
(Alternatively Ben, Benji, Benny, Bennet, Bernie, Bee, or Hundred Dolla Bill)
I'm the local locksmith to Cripple Creek, although I service all of Teller County. I live in Cripple Creek on Thurlow Avenue, only about 5 minutes from the casinos on Bennett Avenue. While I did provide full locksmith services in the past, I am now only doing vehicle lockouts due to the frequency and nature of the work.
Teller County is not the easiest place to wait around for help, especially after dark or in winter, so local response matters. I know the roads, weather, parking lots, casino area, trails, and odd little corners of Cripple Creek because this is where I live and explore. Fully equiped for rain or snow or worse.
The idea started after I thought I had locked my keys in my own truck. I eventually found them (inside the truck), but while searching for help I learned something useful: many “local” locksmith listings around here were not actually local. In fact, only a handful were even located in Colorado Springs - most were using google voice numbers to some call center.
I called through listing after listing. Some sounded like the same call center with a different town name pasted on top. None gave any specific information about my area, just "we can be there in 20 minutes" which is impossible from Colorado Springs. Cripple Creek, Victor, the casinos, the neighborhoods, and the roads around Teller County deserve someone nearby who can actually pick up the phone, be there in under 30 minutes, and unlock their car for a set price.
I grew up on the east cost in the mountains of Appalachia. Between the farmlands and hollers I worked my way out and moved out to Colorado. Before restarting this work locally, I spent years in electrical, software, and mechanical engineering. Eventually I went into the security industry, starting my own company and eventually taking over others. That included locksmithing, rekeying, key systems, alarms, cameras, and access-control work for homes and businesses along with software development, drafting, engineering, architecture, and model trains.
These days the public-facing service is narrowed down on purpose. Teller County Locksmith is focused on mobile vehicle unlocks, not trying to be every locksmith service at once. Due to the increase in modern vehicles and specialized equipment that only dealerships and upscale services can afford, I no longer offer rekeys or transponder programming.
Short Line Holdings is a nod to the old Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek District railroad: the Short Line. It connected Colorado Springs with the gold camps around Cripple Creek and Victor. You can find a LOT more information about it and even see some remnants of it at the Cripple Creek Heritage Center!
